Continuous growth out of the niche

Circular Clothing on track for success
2025.2

The Circular Clothing Cooperative launched the first three Cradle to Cradle Certified® products of the Blue suit brand in 2022. There are currently over one hundred products from four brands - proof of the strong momentum in circular fashion and the pioneering spirit of the lavie, STUNED and WE ARE ZRCL brands. The cooperative has also grown at member level: CARPASUS and CLIMATEX are new associate members.

The first C2C Certified® bed linen by lavie

The new collection is not only a declaration of love for stripe designs, but also a bold step towards even greater consistency in terms of recyclability. Frida - available as bed linen and as a top sheet - has been thought through from fibre to seam and proudly bears the Cradle to Cradle Certified® Gold certificate. From the cotton material to the dyes and processing - everything about Frida is designed to be free from harmful substances and to one day return to the natural cycle.

Yarn-dyed for long-lasting colour fastness, the Frida design retains its natural look even after many washes. With this step, lavie considers sustainability in its entire dimension: from material health, mono-materials and renewable energy to fair social conditions. For a good feeling, night after night.

The new denim collection by STUNED

The sustainable denim collection from STUNED offers the best of both worlds: Robust workwear fabric meets unrivalled comfort. Both the black and ecru denim are Cradle to Cradle Certified® Gold and biodegradable.

The black denim is reminiscent of traditional workwear - hard-wearing and durable. It tells its own story every time it is worn and washed - a unique look that only gets better with time.

The ecru denim stands for freedom of movement and lightness. Thanks to the stretch content, the fabric moulds to the body and is ideal for long days out and about or simply for feeling good. Despite its robustness, it is pleasantly lightweight and perfect for any occasion.

Sheena Thommen is the creative designer behind STUNED. A particular highlight of the new collection is her innovative waistband, which combines aesthetics and functionality: The waistband contains a concealed elasticated band that remains invisible from the outside. This gives the trousers the look of a classic, high-quality design.

SWISS EDITION T-shirts and knitwear by WE ARE ZRCL

With the SWISS EDITION T-shirts and knitwear collections from WE ARE ZRCL, every possible stage of production is carried out in Switzerland. This guarantees regional value creation in compliance with the highest social and ecological standards. The organic cotton and yarn come 100% from Remei. The entire supply chain for all products can be traced via the sewn-in TRACK ME code. Since 2024, all SWISS EDITION products have been produced in accordance with the Cradle to Cradle Certified® standard and have achieved the bronze level.

Via the RE:ZRCL programme, used products can be returned to WE ARE ZRCL and collected for the recycling process. There are also simple tips on how to make conscious purchasing decisions and extend the life of products.

CARPASUS and CLIMATEX - new associate members

CARPASUS creates high-quality shirts and modern menswear. Made from first-class materials, their collections are designed to accompany the wearer for a long time and in style. Each piece from the St. Gallen-based company stands for timeless design, long-lasting quality, and a commitment to changing the harmful practices of the fashion industry.

CARPASUS only uses natural, environmentally friendly materials such as organic cotton, linen, wool, and recycled cotton. They work with specialised producers in Europe who share their vision for a more ethical and responsible approach to fashion.

CLIMATEX stands for clear, uncompromising values and was the pioneer of the world's first Cradle to Cradle Certified® textile. The brand develops patented Circular Textile Technologies that ensure the true recyclability of textiles. Its high-performance textiles - with moisture management and flame retardancy - are designed to be disassembled and recycled to enable a zero-waste future. Cradle to Cradle Certified® technologies enable the pure separation of textile blends using only water, heat, and pressure - returning all materials to their biological or technical cycle.

With the award-winning sewing thread STITCHLOCK, which disintegrates, CLIMATEX demonstrates its Design for Disassembly approach. Under high temperature and pressure, the seams disintegrate so that complex garments can be broken down into recyclable components.

CLIMATEX works with innovative brands and manufacturers who are working to reduce environmental impact and achieve sustainability and circular economy goals - for textiles with more than one life.

Learnings on the circular journey

There are many hurdles in the processing of C2C Certified® materials. Limited supplier options, gaps in recertification and a lack of awareness in the industry make it a challenge to develop truly circular fashion and home textiles. But challenges also offer opportunities! The experience of Circular Clothing makes it clear that C2C-certified® materials are the foundation for any circular design and that collaboration in the supply chain must be encouraged for better accessibility. Last but not least, every textile entrepreneur must get involved to increase awareness and acceptance of circular products.

Do good and talk about it

This old PR wisdom is particularly true for pioneering projects and start-ups. I have been involved with Circular Clothing for over four years as a co-founder, cooperative member, co-president and Head of Strategic Communications & PR. What we have achieved as a community thanks to continuous and authentic communication fills me with great joy and pride.
